Protected areas in Estonia

Protected areas constitute about 18% of the territory of Estonia.

Next to national parks, also nature reserves and landscape protection areas are under nature protection. These serve to protect and introduce the habitats and communities of endangered species and natural or semi-natural landscapes.

When visiting protected areas please follow the restrictions and rules established in the area. The protected areas are managed by the Environmental Board of Estonia, and the Centre for State Forest Management in Estonia is involved in visitor management.

Here you can find information about the hiking trails and recreation sites situated in smaller protected areas all over Estonia.
