Emajõe study trail (3 km)

  • Due to high water level, the trail may be partly under water.
  • The former building of Emajõe-Suursoo Nature Centre and its surroundings together with Kantsi campfire site have been rented to Luunja Municipality. The slip and the campfire site are still in public use.
The Emajõgi River study trail starts by Kantsi Tavern and forms a loop on the river floodplain, across grassland in sedge fen and through a bog birch grove.

Additional information
  • The trail is not kept clear of snow.
  • The study trail is affected by the flooding of the Emajõgi River, which is why certain parts of the trail may be difficult to pass or impassable at times.
  • Making campfire is allowed only in designated and marked places. 
  • In the green are at the beginning of the trail is forbidden to camp and make fire!
  • Access road is kept clear of snow; no snow removal on the study trail.
RestrictionsThis is a Natura 2000, Ramsar and IBA site. In the territory of the Nature Reserve are certain restrictions. Further information about restrictions can be obtained from the Environmental Board (+372 662 5999, info@keskkonnaamet.ee).
LocationKavastu village, Luunja municipality, Tartu County. Object no 2 on the nature reserve map.
Driving directionsTurn left from the 8.km of Tartu-Räpina Road (sign "Kavastu"), drive 10 km over the crossroad. Drive 3 km on gravel road to the parking area. Park in the area outside the gate. Move on through the gate, the trail starts from the information board of the smaller parking lot.
